Presidential Photo of the Day: Obama greets Eisenhower Executive Office Building custodian Lawrence Lipscomb with a good ol’ fashioned fist-bump.I fucking LOVE our president.
GOD. Now he’s a bro, too? HE JUST… HE GETS ME.
I LOVE HIM.
…yeah but he hasn’t DONE anything. Last time I checked you still are in an economic crisis, have shitty health care, no stardardized minimum wage system, an influx of illegal immigrants, the constitution is still outdated by about oh 150 years or so and gays aren’t even considered people in most states. Oh wait but he is great for photo ops—nevermind, I forgot that’s all that matters.
Word.
Let’s also not forget the fact that we still have yet to withdraw from Iraq or Afghanistan - in fact, the president has recently approved over $100 billion in funding to continue both of those wars - and we are also on the verge of going to war with Iran.
…but hey, if you have your reasons for supporting the president, that’s your own right. I only HOPE those reasons are founded on more than the occasional quaint photo on your dashboard.
(See Heather, aren’t you glad you left Canada for this?!?!)
well the president cant just say gay marriage is legal. we do have other branches to take care of that. take that up with the shitty court systems and bigotry in the country. this country was founded by “illegal immigrants.” we dont need to prevent immigration, but we do need a better way to control it. the health care is fucked because of a lot of reason, including people who dont want univeral health care at all. id take expensive health care over none. and all of these things the president cant just fix with a wave of his magic wand. all of these problems need to be fixed through all of our branches of government, working in unison. if obama could just say “this is whats going to happen,” wed be in a dictatorship.
as for the war, yeah it sucks were still in it. and while i do disagree with the whole pussyfooting around with the withdraw, you cant expect a flat disengagement. it would destroy those countries. also, about iran? out of all the countries we should have gone to war with iran is right at the top. what with the whole nuclear weapons thing? at least iran makes sense as opposed to iraq.
it just seems that everyone is bitching about obama when you have to realize he took over at one of the worst points in american history, from a leader who was so incompetent he nearly drove our country into the ground. you cant rebound from 8 years of the bush administration in 1. thats just fucking unrealistic and impossible. if by the end of his term obama hasnt done shit then yeah ill agree with the detractors, but right now it seems premature to me to jump on his case when he has so much shit to deal with right now that most people would have a goddamn stroke if they tried. the fact that obama is trying his best to deal with it, but still has time to act like a human being who actually gives a damn, is what is impressive about him, and these pics.
Alright. Should I get into this? Fuck it, I’m gonna. TL;DR if you feel like it.
Okay. I acknowledge the fact that this dude inherited such a shit storm, sure, but people act as though he didn’t know what he was signing himself up for. He did. Remember all those speeches we all - myself included - found so compelling? The ones that collectively won us over? They sounded like he understood pretty well, don’t you think? (…And even if he didn’t, how would that be any more excusable?)
This guy made a lot of ambitious promises, and obviously nobody expects them to come true in a year. But there’s a difference between being patient and being ignorant. While you’re holding out for the good, you shouldn’t stop looking for the bad. The “PROGRESS” that this campaign promised shouldn’t be one that requires waiting for.
You say it’s premature to be criticizing Obama, but don’t you find anything illogical about saying, ”if by the end of his term he hasn’t doesn’t shit then yeah i’ll agree”? You would honestly rather watch another 4 years go by and then make a judgment? There should be no such thing as “premature.” It isn’t the public’s job to make the president feel better. If you acknowledge that “CHANGE” won’t happen overnight, you thereby acknowledge that instead it should always be happening, all the time. So. What’s changed so far?
Look. This is the public’s problem. We’re so willing to jump on a soapbox during an election, but after the spectacle of the race is over, you stop paying attention, stop watching, stop caring whether or not those promises you invested your vote in are actually being kept.
The Bush administration did a disgusting amount of damage to our country, but the biggest detriment it left us with was the naive belief that once Bush was gone, the bullshit would be gone with him.
The country is still falling apart as much as ever.
I don’t understand how 8 precedent years of deceitful, corrupt, nepotistic bullshit can make the public feel any bit more lenient towards whomever comes next. After what our country has gone through, we should be more engaged, more concerned, and more critical of our leader than ever.
I’m not trying to sway anyone to the left or to the right, and I hope it doesn’t seem that way. I think that the polarized perspective we generally apply to politics is a completely impractical way to look at things and that it cheapens America’s intellect. Support whomever you want to support. (Really. I mean that genuinely, not incredulously.) But don’t fool yourself into thinking that anyone can be entirely trusted to serve your best interest.
(Also… on a more cynical note… why is “having time to be a real person” supposed to be reassuring? Is there something wrong with “being too busy running the country”?)
Anyway, whatever. I’ve gotta catch up on Jersey Shore. LATA!!!
Tonight: my last Friday in New York for a long time. Ready to fuckin’ FIST PUMP!

So stoked to see these guys on Saturday. Can’t imagine anyone I’d rather see for what will most likely be my last show of the year.
But seriously, can we please have a new album in 2010?
This is legitimately one of my top favorite albums of all time.
